Joy of Wellness
Our driving force is our desire to assist you to experience the Joy of Wellness. The joy of wellness is what you feel when you can do things you never thought possible. It happens when you gain an ability that you have only dreamed of. It happens when you regain an ability that you have lost. There is joy - great joy- in these feelings, and that is where our passion comes from. We want to assist you to find your state of happiness through a healthy lifestyle – to experience the joy of wellness.
Wellness. What a funny word. It really should mean the state of being well or the state of being without illness. But for many, this state of being in good health means much more. It is the place where you are not only without illness, but you are feeling good. For some it is the ability to touch their toes without pain. For others it is the ability to run a marathon. Others just want to climb the steps at work without knee pain. Some want to play with their kids without back pain. All of these and so many others are examples of wellness.
Journey. Wellness is not easily defined and is very different for every individual. The way to achieve it, though, is the same. First, accept where you are. Second, decide where you want to be. Third, design the plan to get there. Finally, act. This process is exactly the same with every client that we work with and enables us to develop very customized programs.
Assess. With the knowledge from the assessment, you and your Transitional Fitness Trainer will develop an exercise plan that makes sense. Your plan will be designed for your goals and tailored to your life. The typical challenges to fitness will be addressed and by maintaining the focus on what is right for you, you will have a plan to better avoid these hindrances.

However, we do have a process that teaches and supports. Our Transitional Fitness Training approach only works when you are involved. Experience the Joy of Wellness.
Exercise is Medicine Initiative
EQUIVITA Supports “Exercise is Medicine” Initiative Adam Milligan I am a member of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), the largest sports medicine and exercise science organization in the world. As part of my membership, and my role in the professional health and fitness community, I’m committed to encouraging physical activity for the health benefits it has for all people. I’m concerned, however, that people view exercise and its many benefits in the wrong light. Many might see physical activity as an optional activity, perhaps a “hobby” or something to do seasonally, like when they need to shape up for a high school reunion or take a stab at a New Year’s resolution. This is simply not the case. Daily physical activity and exercise are absolutely essential to good health and weight maintenance, particularly important as we are facing an obesity epidemic in this country. The need to be a more active nation is at the core of a new initiative launched by ACSM and the American Medical Association earlier this month called “Exercise is Medicine.” The goal of the Exercise is Medicine program is to encourage physicians to “prescribe” exercise during patient visits. Able patients will be advised to participate in at least 30 minutes of physical activity and 10 minutes of stretching and light muscle training five days a week. If there were a drug that could prevent or treat numerous chronic conditions – such as hypertension, cardiac disease and diabetes – surely every doctor would be eager to prescribe it. After all, “prescribing” such an activity would be in patients’ best interests. This “drug” exists, but not in pill form; exercise can treat (or prevent) all these conditions and more, in only 30 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity per day. Even so, a recent survey conducted of the public by ACSM found that while four out of 10 physicians (41%) talk to their patients about the importance of exercise, they don’t always offer suggestions on the best ways to be physically active. But, nearly two-thirds of patients (65%) would be more interested in exercising to stay healthy if advised by their doctor and given additional resources. My experience when I first began working at a facility that had rehabilitation services supports this. Patients had the time to do their rehabilitation exercises when it was prescribed by a physician, but did not continue to exercise once it was no longer prescribed for them, even though their bodies could continue to benefit. This was one of the reasons that I founded Transitional Fitness – to try to create a way to transition patients from a “prescriptive program” to one that would continue to benefit their bodies. Working closely with physicians has helped many of my clients have more successful exercise programs and enabled them to make fitness a part of their own healthy lifestyles To learn more about how EQUIVITA’s Transitional Fitness Training and the 5Keys Fitness Assessment support Exercise is Medicine, please visit this part of our web site or contact Adam Milligan at 614.298.8781 x 13 or email amilligan@equivita.com.
